Behind The Scenes, Fairy tales Inspiration

Written on May 4, 2009 by Rosie

I was sitting on the couch one morning watching Sleeping Beauty with my best friend, Morgan. Princess Aurora, the protagonist, pricked her finger and Morgan said, "man it'd be funny if that was a syringe with drugs in it!" Naturally, we both laughed at the idea of a drug-addicted Disney character. However, I then saw the picture in my head and knew the series had started! It turned out wonderfully. I was so surprised that so many photos originated from such a simple joke with a friend.

For the entire series I used several fairy tales that we're all familiar with. I took a picture in that setting along with the theme of a problem in society that needs addressing. Topics like drug abuse, smoking while pregnant, immigrant discrimination, child abduction, cases of delusion and mind disorders, eating disorders, obesity, hunting behaviors, terrorist attacks, global warming, sex offenders, drinking, the increasing number of teen pregnancies, abuse, motor vehicle accidents, and so on.

Then I edited them with Adobe Photoshop CS3, occasionally adding effects including clouds in the background, birds, putting myself into a cigarette case, textures, exploding heads, paper airplanes, fake bruises, fake blood, and glowing red eyes.

Here are some of the out-takes/behind the scenes shots:

Scrubbing the yellow brick road from Dorothy's Ban From Oz.

Wendy's Survival.

Pocahontas's Carbon Footprint.

Rosie
My name is Rosie and I'm an aspiring photographer. I'm very experienced in photoshop and many, many editing programs. I'm a very happy person. I keep an open mind and listen to anyone who wants to talk. Most people don't know what they'd do without me when they let me in their lives. I also play the guitar, design t-shirts, do makeup & hair, sketch, and sing(only in choir). I have a loving boyfriend who is also a photographer and he supports me every step of the way. I live in my own world because my world will be my world for the rest of my life. No one can see things the way I do and I take full advantage of that.
