RE+IN Landscape Urbanism Studio | 2009

This project is located in Mukwonago, a suburban town southeast of Milwaukee that is witnessing exponential growth that is threatening to destroy the identity of this small community. After conducting extensive research in the community and under the tenets of Landscape Urbanism, we identified a need to enhance and revitalize the city center. My partner and I designed a business and retail incubator, focusing on a flexible design, as use will vary over time. The environmental and cultural conditions of the site are also highly influential to the buildingâ€™s design.

Concieved as a two-building project that would create a new central commercial and business destination.

The first floor contains the main office, 4 small retail spaces, 2 small art studios, and 2 service industry spaces. Conceptually we envisioned this as a set of programmatic bars that slip and stager to better define the outdoor community spaces.

The second floor is for office space rentals and 2 small upstart medical offices as well as shared amenity spaces. To maximize net area that had access to natural daylight a small rooftop courtyard was placed in the northern part of the office space.

These sections show the relationship between the two buildings. These sections also show the diverse spatial qualities of the business and retail incubator.

The plaza defined by the smaller building would become a destination for farmers' markets, outdoor theater, flea markets, and a lunch spot.
