Patterns

A year and a half ago I started to create patterns using shapes in Illustrator, I became rather obsessive and quickly learnt tricks and made pattern after pattern. I started to experiment with typefaces and words and making patterns from them. This resulted in a handmade book of patterns I had designed, it was made of two parts; The A-Z of Verdana and The A-Z of Times New Roman, they are fairly self explanatory, I created a pattern for each letter of the alphabet for both typefaces. I chose Times because I wanted to make it beautiful again, I wanted the typefaces to becoming interesting to look at again. My second type book was The A-Z of type; each letter represented by a pattern made from a typeface who's name started with the correlating letter; B for Baskerville, F for Futura, M for Mrs Eaves and so on. Then I revisited using shapes for a while, getting more complex using transparencies and overlays as well as experimenting with the 3D. I am currently screen printing some of the patterns as posters.
